It should never be taken off or tampered with during the day until you are out of the backcountry at the end of the day.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Jackets and pants must not have foil, heating elements, or magnetic closures.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All transceivers have an On\/Off switch that is designed to be hard to turn off. Look at the display when turning it on to ensure battery strength is above 50%.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Practice switching between \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcSend\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 and \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcSearch\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 at least 2-3 times.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Avalanche rescue<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Watch this video demonstrating a full avalanche rescue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Avalanche Rescue Techniques | EpicTV MSC Avalanche Series Episode 5\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/j0q9uPIjG80?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What to do in the event someone is caught in an avalanche<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Yell \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Avalanche!\u00e2\u20ac\u009d, <\/strong>watch the person(s) caught in the avalanche, and remember the last seen point.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Appoint a leader. Get help (InReach, PLB, or phone).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Everyone must assist with the initial rescue &#8211; time is life &#8211; 90% chance of survival if found in first 10mins!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Everyone turns their transceiver to \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcSearch\u00e2\u20ac\u2122. Turn off all electronic devices.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Appoint transceiver searchers and start searching ASAP.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rescuers not searching can assemble shovels and probes. Look for clues. Pull and probe around clues on the surface until a transceiver signal is found.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">If you are caught in an avalanche<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Yell \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Avalanche!\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/strong>, and try to ski\/ride to the side of the slide.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Skiers discard skis\/poles if possible. Snowboarders try to keep the board out of the moving snow.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Try to stay on the surface of the slide, feet first on your back swimming motion. From the last seen point if possible. S l o w&nbsp; d o w n and precisely follow arrows.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Pinpoint search:<\/strong> \u00e2\u20ac\u02dc3 to the knee\u00e2\u20ac\u2122. When the arrow disappears move the transceiver forward on a straight line, and find the lowest number. Start if the transceiver reads is less than 1m.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other diggers line up behind the first digger, one shovel length apart. Rotate every 2-4 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Do not lift but paddle or scoop snow. If the snow is hard, cut blocks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you reach the body dig towards the head to check and clear the airway.
